Grant collaborators access to work on your website

What if you want to hire a designer or developer to update your site?

GitHub makes it easy to grant access to people so they can work on your website. You don't have to hand over your username and password, and all changes to your files will be attributed to the person who made them. It's an ideal way to work with others on a project.

Follow these steps to grant access to your website repository:

  1. Log in to your GitHub account.
  2. Open the repository for your website.
  3. Choose Settings from the top menu bar.
  4. Choose Collaborators from the left sidebar.
  5. In the Manage access section, choose Add people.
  6. Enter the email address or GitHub username of your potential collaborator and send invitation. When they accept the invitation, they will have access to the files in your repository and the freedom to make changes.

To maintain the security of your files, it's a good idea to revoke access to people you are no longer collaborating with. Go back to Settings —> Collaborators —> Manage access, then select the target collaborator and click Remove.
